Dietitians work to ensure that people receive healthy diets, lower the chances of getting diseases and malnutrition, and improve their quality of life. They have a variety of employment opportunities and are in high demand due to increasing awareness and treatment options for medical conditions related to nutrition.
A career as a dietitian requires a degree, practical training and a national licensing exam. A dietitian’s job duties may include advising clients, planning and preparing meals, conducting research, evaluating the nutritional value of different foods, or working with children, seniors and those on a budget.
To practice as a dietitian, you need to obtain a specific degree and be registered with the College of Dietitians of Ontario. To be registered, you must complete an accredited dietician program ontario and have the right qualifications to pass a credentialing examination administered by the Commission on Dietetic Registration (CDR).
The Brescia University College program in dietetics is fully accredited by the Partnership for Dietetic Education and Practice (PDEP) and prepares graduates to enter a post-degree practicum program that can lead to registration as a Registered Dietitian (RD). Graduates will be eligible to apply to the Canadian Association of Schools of Public Health (CASPH) for a credentialing exam that can also qualify them to register with the College of Dietitians of Ontario.
Develop your leadership and business skills with the two-year Ontario College Diploma in Nutrition and Food Services Management. During the course of your studies, you’ll learn about food production, food safety, menu planning, therapeutic nutrition, finance and facilities. You’ll also gain experience through two five-week placements, working alongside industry professionals to build your skills.
During your course of study, you’ll be taught by expert faculty in the fields of public health nutrition and food service management. You’ll also have the opportunity to engage in interdisciplinary learning activities and to travel internationally, allowing you to expand your expertise in areas such as gerontology or Indigenous studies.

Your studies in science, nutrition, communication and social sciences, along with advanced study opportunities in subjects such as dietetics, food security or gerontology will give you the specialized knowledge and skills needed to improve the health of all Canadians.
As a registered dietitian, you’ll have the privilege to make a positive impact on people’s lives in a wide range of settings including long-term care homes, hospitals, retirement homes and school cafeterias. You’ll also be able to use your knowledge of food and nutrition to advise food manufacturers on developing and marketing healthier products, or start your own private practice.

The RD credential is the gold standard in the nutrition profession, demonstrating that you have met the necessary education and practical training requirements to practise as a Registered Dietitian (RD). You’ll be protected by a regulatory body that ensures that RDs have the required competencies and practice in a safe and ethical manner.
