Techniques and strategies for hunting pronghorns vary with individual hunters and field conditions. Pre-season archery practice and studying the habits of individual herds are strongly recommended. High Plains Game Ranch knows their herds so all you need to do is focus on your shot.  Distances can be deceptive in the open space.

Decoying is a common practice among hunters in South Dakota. The best dates are September 5th-15th with the rut peaking around the 10th of September.

Memories that will last a lifetime, many meals of delicious antelope meat, and a beautiful mount for the den are rewards of the High Plain Game Ranch Pronghorn Hunt!

Some of the finest Whitetail hunting in Western South Dakota is found in the heart of High Plains Game Ranch.  Because we manage High Plains Game Ranch for wildlife,  we manage our deer for quality and not quantity.  Our hunts are offered with the muzzleloader and archery hunter in mind.

We have outstanding habitat located along the Belle Fourche River.  High Plains countryside provides an exciting hunt each and every time you step foot in the field.

Note:  Licenses are on a draw basis only and must be applied for prior to the season dates.  Please refer to the South Dakota Regulations for applications and season dates.  Acrobat Reader is required to view handbooks.  High Plains Deer Licenses are Unit 315.

Few outdoor experiences match the exhilaration and challenge of a traditional spring gobbler hunt. The sound of a gobbler’s excited calling as he steadily approaches, the harmonic puffing and feather snapping of an unseen bird and the first sight of the gobbler in full strutting display as he comes into view are unforgettable.

A dense pattern of No. 4 or No. 6 shot is recommended by High Plains Game Ranch.  Aimed at a turkey’s vulnerable head and neck, a dense pattern of small shot is more effective than a relatively open pattern of larger shot. Even large shot is often deflected by a turkey’s dense, hard feathers.

Spring Turkey Applications are available here.
