Fred took this buck earlier in the season.

Rhonda and I are “gearing up” for Christmas! Rhonda has been in her kitchen baking seriously. If I can eat it all, you could bounce me through the fields. We have been hunting right along, pheasants have been fun. Also Fred took two muzzleloader deer, both nice shots from his flinter.  Later, Randy

We have some snow, but today was a beautiful day. We are busy doing ranch chores and tighting up for some winter weather.  But, we are still hunting pheasants and have had some great hunts. There are still some dates available in Dec., so if anyone is interested in a pheasant hunt. ,let us know. Also, we have gift certificates for Christmas or birthdays, etc.  Later, Randy

November is going by way to fast! We have been hunting pheasants despite the snow and cold weather. Deer season is on and there is some pretty good horn running around yet. I need to give our hunters a “pep talk.”  Hope everyone is enjoying Thanksgiving Day and please remember our troops that are all around the world, keeping us safe at home. Later, Randy

November has been beautiful so far. We are seeing rain and snow tonight for the first time. Just in the air, nothing on the ground. Our pheasant hunts have been going well. But with this moisture the scenting conditions for the dogs should be really good.  Our deer season is a few days away. We have been seeing some nice bucks,so hopefully some of them will be hanging from the old “buck pole” soon. I’ll keep you posted. Later, Randy

Thursday, October 28th, 2010

Well, October is almost gone. We are having a wonderful fall. The weather has just been beautiful.  We have been  seeing sandhill cranes flighting over us for the last couple of weeks.   We have had a number of new “puppies”  and youth hunting with us this fall. All I can say is ” FUN!!”  Thank you to all of our hunters who have hunted with us in Sept. and October. And we are looking forward to all of our hunters coming  in November. Later, Randy

Dear HPGR Hunters,

Welcome to the 2010-2011 hunting season!

All of us here at High Plains Game Ranch are ready for the fall pheasant hunting to begin. The hunting dogs are getting antsy and the guides are beginning to dig out the blaze orange and reminsce about last season’s hunting.

We have already booked several hunts for October and November, but have several weekday hunts and select weekend hunts still available so you will want to book soon.

The ranch did receive lots of rain this spring and summer and grass and crops were coming along grand until July when we were hit by a large hail storm. Our corn crop has suffered, but we still have lots of cover to hunt and the pheasants are coming into full color now.

Additionally, we lost one of our great hunting dogs Raizin to cancer this summer. Many of you have enjoyed hunting behind Raizin and she will be missed. She was a very kind-hearted dog that had an enthusiasm for bird hunting.

Rhonda and I look forward to seeing many of our hunting friends in our 2010-2011 hunting season. Those of you who we haven’t yet had the pleasure of hosting we encourage you to give us a call about hunting at High Plains Game Ranch. We pride ourselves on offering quality down home upland game bird hunts and we won’t disappoint!

Here’s to a great fall season,

Randy Vallery
