A good rain today!  It is much needed. High wind warnings out for tomorrow. The baby calves will “tuck in” when it hits. The pairs have been in the main bottom since they calved, lot of shelter there.  Only one cow left to calve! The weather has been wonderful for the livestock. The stock dams can use a good charge of runoff. Hope it comes. Turkey hunters have met with success and we still have a few left. Later….. Randy

The calving season is going really well, just 4 heifers left and about 20 cows. All of the calved cows are at the “Main” river bottom. We have been moving them as pairs, 15 or so at a time. Seeding oats and alafalfa into two fields on the “Burke Bottom”. Next we will plow up a couple of hay fields and put the into corn fields, later this spring.   The weather continues to be very nice. Rhonda and I finished our 25th pheasant season. Thank you to all of our hunters and their families. It has been fun watching the generations enjoy the ranch.  We are looking forward to Year 26. The calving season is upon us. The heifers have been calving since March 5th, and the cows since the 15th. The weather has been mild by calving standards. Everything is going along fine. The river is up by a couple of feet. Keyhole in Wy. is”full” and Orman is “near full.” So we can expect more water down the river. The geese are pairing up and we had a group of turkeys pass through the yard today. They look like the ones our friends, Sherry and Fred,  had scared out of their yard. Later….. Randy

It was a typical March day. Wind, snow, sun, clouds, sun and more wind.   Hunters  today. They ran their own dogs, two chocolate labs. They did well. We have officially started the 2012 calving season. 3 heifers and 2 cows have calved.  I worked on the bob sled a bit and have some leather work to do on the harness. I still have not told our horses what I am doing, they will know soon enough. Later …… Randy

Rhonda and I are glad Codi is home from her China-Vietnam Trip. She has some great pictures and some stories to match.  The cattle are wintering well and closing in on their due dates. We will be getting the horses in from winter pasture soon. We are still busy guiding our pheasant hunts. I forged some pieces for the “bob-sled project” one evening and I have a couple more pieces to make. Later…… Randy
